Spa on Wheels Repurposed Yard Sale Cart

Hi there, Friends! Today I'm sharing the fun makeover of a recent yard sale find that I styled with even more thrifted finds, which of course, is the way I like to do it. I've paired vintage accents with glitzy gold to create a glamorous spa that pampers with the option of rolling it to any room your heart desires!

Remember this sad little yard sale cart that I scored for $1? Now I bet you thought I was going to create a bar cart, but I've seen so many cute ones out there, I opted for something a little different. Considering my affection for essential oils and the frequency of sore muscles from gardening, a spa trolley is also quite practical. Not to mention, when overnight guests are expected, it can be moved to a guest room or bath which will be especially convenient as the fall holidays approach.

First, I took a wire brush to the rusty spots, scrubbed it down and sanded before painting.

I had planned all along to repaint the shelves white and the rails and hardware gold,

then on a whim, I decided to paint the bottom shelf gold too. I wanted the white shelves to have polka dots and considered stenciling them, but I've found it hard to achieve the desired metallic gold shade with brush on paint. I already had these white envelope seals on hand, so I decided to try my hand at spray painting them. Why not? If you saw my spray painted Barbie shoe then this shouldn't come as much of a surprise ;)

Here's everything all painted and ready to be reassembled. I had to rush everything inside before some much needed rain hit!

After putting it all back together, I was ready to add the dots. I was pleased to see the sticker paper hadn't curled up from being spray painted. (I sprayed it very, very lightly.) My other concern was whether the dots would continue to stick.

Here's a quick shot I took when I stopped to go run some errands--so far so good! When I returned, I added the remaining dots. Then came the fun part ~ styling it up! I'd already pulled out one of my vintage china platters...

...and here's how the top shelf looked when I finished. With a fragrant oil diffuser and refreshing mint infused water, I'll be unwinding in no time!

Pretty pink garden roses and the gorgeous vintage perfume decanter now filled with lavender essential oil are also soothing to the senses.

On the middle shelf, some lotion and polish to pamper the hands and more essential oils. These pretty little bottles were .25 each at a yard sale and the mirrored vanity tray, $1.

The last shelf holds amenities for a luxurious bath: fluffy towels, bath salts, scented soap and a lavender candle. I'm glad I went with gold for the bottom shelf--what do you think?

From grunge to glam and for the cart, vintage perfume decanter, tray and glass bottles, I spent a grand total of $11.10! For everything else, I shopped my home.

  1. What a great makeover! I night add an oatmeal scrub or something similar to soften my hands, and perhaps a peel off facial mask. What a wonderful cart to pamper yourself!

  4. Great job Cecilia. I am not much of a "gold" person, but that turned out really nice. The gold bottom shelf really anchors it. Guests should be very impressed. I know I am.
