Cupcakes and Coffee in the Garden: Fall Tablescape Blog Hop

Happy Monday, Friends! I'd like to welcome those of you visiting from the Fall Tablescape Blog Hop! Now maybe like me, you in live in an area where the warm temperatures aren't showing the slightest hint of fall and decorating for the upcoming season isn't even on your radar yet--believe me, I understand! Even so, I hope you'll stick around and plan to visit the talented bloggers participating through the week. The tour is hosted by Chloe from Celebrate and Decorate and if you've seen any of her lovely tablescapes, you'll know you're in for a treat! Pin away and you'll be ready with lots of festive fall inspiration when the weather decides to cooperate. Now, won't you join me for cupcakes and coffee in the garden?

Obviously we don't have any fall foliage here yet, but I was inspired to pull from the warm golden hues associated with autumn. I started with a thrifted vintage quilt as a tablecloth. Next, I paired vintage Golden Wheat dessert plates with copper chargers, which were a recent DIY project. {Stay tuned--I'll be sharing a simple tutorial for them soon!}

The gold trimmed tea cups and cream and sugar set are part of my vintage Noritake Bancroft china that I've had for over thirty years. Mixing the different colored metallics reminds me of nature's array of autumn shades. Striped mini pumpkins are my favorite and this is actually one I preserved from last year by covering it in silica sand. {Find it here!} Lemon balm and coreopsis create a pretty garden-to-table bouquet and you'll notice I also trimmed the cupcake plate with the same blooms and a sprig of thyme. I'm partial to bite sized cupcakes and I baked a new recipe for the occasion--pumpkin spice with cinnamon buttercream frosting! The pumpkin taste is very subtle and the hint of cinnamon in the frosting really complements the flavor. I found new ways to simplify both the cupcakes {only 2 ingredients!} and frosting them {no more piping for me!} and I'm planning on sharing the recipe soon.

I'm fond of combining classic vintage pieces with newer clearance finds--something old and something new. The whimsical squirrel who looks ready to nibble the cupcakes is from a pair of vintage salt and pepper shakers. Maybe you remember them from my tiered cake stand display. Both the burlap flatware pockets and the copper handled flatware fall into the bargain "something new" category, though I have had both for several years now. I often add fresh herbs to my tablescapes. Whether used like fresh flowers in bud vases or as bouquet garnis, like these that your guests can take home, the scent is heavenly! Here, I've combined thyme, rosemary and oregano for a slightly different version. {Drop by Wednesday to see the simple way I root herbs and also how to use them to create bouquet garnis.}

Here's a wider view of the table:

Can you tell I'm partial to rosemary? It's the most popular order for weddings at Secret Garden Herbs and there is nothing like the fragrance, fresh from the garden!

The burlap pillow is another one of my Tuesday Morning finds--my favorite source for pillows, next to handmade. I love the sentiment and I want to thank you for gathering here with me, today!

  2. You know I love a mix of vintage with new Cecilia, and you've done it oh, so well. That flatware is really pretty. I have a set of wheat design stoneware from the 70s that was Mr. P.'s that looks very similar to your porcelain. Using vintage quilts as tablecloths is one of my favorite things too, and that one you've used is perfect for the season!

  4. Love the quilt as the tablecloth and all of the different textures you added. Seriously, that's ROSEMARY?? I'm lucky if I can get mine to grow to be a foot tall haha but our growing season is pretty short so I'll blame it on that!

    I'll have to investigate where to buy silica gel. That's great to preserve the striped mini pumpkins. I love fresh things and as you say it's a little early yet to find.
